Your Questions Answered
If you have a question that has not been addressed on this page, please contact us through our contact form for the information you need.
My insurance doesn’t require a referral for testing services. Do I still need to provide one?
Yes. Our process begins with a referral because it provides us with basic demographic information and an initial reason for the testing request so that we are able to bill an initial appointment with your insurance for a medically necessary reason.
Do you offer psychosexual evaluations or competency evaluations for the courts?
No. NINH does not offer forensic evaluations.
Can I use a neuropsychological evaluation in court or for benefits?
No. A neuropsychological assessment is done for medical, cognitive, developmental, and functional purposes. It is intended to guide providers and services that support a client’s personal wellbeing. Additionally, most organizations or agencies requiring an evaluation for benefits or services seek these through providers they have already identified and have existing relationships with or own.
Is a neuropsychological evaluation the same as a school evaluation?
No. Schools offer testing that focuses on academic performance, achievement, and ability to utilize resources provided by educational facilities. While there may be some overlap in the type of tests provided in both types of assessments, a neuropsychological evaluation is intended to assess cognition, development, intellect, and general function.
My (or my child’s) evaluation has been completed with NINH and providers have questions that only you can answer. What should I do?
Results of the evaluations we offer are explained in detail within the reports provided and after testing when clients and guardians have an opportunity to review these findings with staff. If additional questions arise, clients are welcome to schedule consultations at their own expense. Please contact the office to set this up if interested.
My child’s second parent is inaccessible to us and unable to sign consent forms or releases of information. How can I move forward with services?
It is important that services as sensitive as neuropsychological testing and therapies be protected. While we understand that this creates some difficulty, families are often encouraged to consider legal consultation to address options. In instances of death, foster placement, adoption, or other legal process, appropriate documentation may be requested to verify guardianship status for minor clients.
Do you offer paid internship experiences?
Payment is only offered for pre- and post-doctoral researchers. All other practicum and internship experiences are unpaid.
